Third Party Car Insurance UK - A Review

Car insurance third party - good or bad idea?

Bad. And we'll explore here why you should never get third party car insurance cover.

Many people believe that if their car is elderly and has little monetory value, especially if it's worth less than a typical policy's excess, that the case is made for getting third party cover as, even if it's written off, no payment would be made by the car insurance provider.

However, it is not just the car that's uninsured, the driver and any pasengers are also uninsured where you are responsible for the accident or if you're hit by an uninsured driver, of which there are two million on our roads.

In a major accident where there may be personal injury and loss of earnings, potentially on the longer term,  there is no cover at all for such losses. While people don't like to consider this outcome, few would see this as an acceptable risk when buying their policy up front. Worse still, where the accident was due to recklessness on your part, any passenger may have a legal case for compensation from you as the driver.

Even if you were willing to accept the above risks on the basis that such an outcome is sufficiently improbable as to not need to be factored into your policy choice, it's not even possible to argue for third party cover on the basis of cost.

Price comparison sites compare comprehensive car insurance cover. They don't compare third party cover. So, if you want third party car insurance, you need to go direct to a named brand. If you then compare the price quoted to prices for comprehensive car insurance generated by a price comparison site, it's usually possible to find cheaper comprehensive car insurance cover anyway.

So, if you can't justify third party car insurance on the basis of the cover or the price, a case cannot be made for ever selecting it as the best first choice, can it?

Some may say that they have a second car, infrequently used, of limited value, for which they see no need for fully comprehensive cover. And, perhaps, a case for third party cover, albeit not devoid of risk, might be made under such circumstances. Except that it can't, because it's still generally cheaper to buy fully comprehensive car insurance if they use a price comparison site to find it.

Case made, we would suggest. Never buy third party car insurance!

This site will help you to easily compare car insurance including checking out third party cover if you remain so-inclined or you wish to test the above pricing arguments.
